Michael Minkoff has been in television since 1980 and combining his technical skills with his creative ability he has become well honored and respected member of the broadcast community.
Michael started at WIFR-TV, Rockford, Il as a Master Control Engineer. With his incredible ability to learn and teach equipment operations, he worked his way up to Assistant Chief Engineer in less than one year.
He was a Senior Editor for Allied Film and Video in Detroit, then Senior Editor for General Motors Corporation in Detroit. While at GM he directed and technical directed the majority of their live teleconferences and press conferences. These included major announcements and had worldwide audiences. Michael also began his close relationship with TV equipment manufacturers. He was able to make GM a beta site for Grass Valley group editing software.
In 1988 Michael went Freelance to edit for NBC at the Seoul Olympics. He also became an instructor / demo artist for Grass Valley Groups VPE Editors, Switchers and Digital Effects. He has been a demo artist at NAB for either GVG, Editware or Zaxcom at every NAB since.
In 1990 Michael started the video production company Lefco Video Services. This company provides complete on-site production and editing services (fly-pack systems) and through this company he continues to edit, instruct, and consult.
In 1992 he edited for NBC in Barcelona and was called upon to train many of the Editors and T.D.s in Grass Valley Group Editor and DVE operations.
In 1996 Michael was NBCs Senior Editor at the Atlanta Olympics. In that roll he consulted with NBC more than a year prior to the games to help design the layout and equipment mix in the edit suites. He arrived in Atlanta two months before the games to help setup, configure and test each bay as well as edit pre-production material. Once the other editors arrived, he assisted in training them and once the games started, oversaw the "hot venue of the day".
To date Michael has won eight national Emmys for his work with NBC and ESPN.
